Notes
‘Vulcain’ was founded in 1858 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The company originally crafted all the parts itself and at one stage had an onsite foundry, hence the name ‘Vulcain’- associated with the God of Fire, metalwork and gold.
The company is famous for the ‘Vulcain Cricket’ – the first alarm wristwatch released in 1942 and named after its distinctive 20 second ring. It was worn by 3 US Presidents – Harry S. Truman, Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon Johnson, the later famously giving 200 as gifts. President Obama received a ‘Vulcain Cricket’ at his inauguration.
‘Vulcain’ is still producing watches. In 2005 it released the ‘Vulcain Imperial Gong’ featuring a tourbillon and Cathedral Gong.
